Greenway Heights
Multi-Family Housing  | New Construction

Frerichs Construction Company recently completed Greenway Heights for PRG, Inc. and Phoenix Development. The building consists of 42 affordable apartments, ranging from two to four bedrooms, and is located on the Midtown Greenway bike trail in Minneapolis’ East Phillips neighborhood. Each room has an industrial look with exposed duct work and an open floor plan. All first floor units have sealed concrete in their living spaces, with carpet in the bedrooms adding to the industrial look, while the floors above are finished with a light colored VCT in the living spaces and carpet in the bedrooms. The basement of the building includes 38 heated parking stalls, each one containing a bike rack. The building includes many amenities such as a patio and deck, one laundry room per floor, fitness room, community room, outdoor activity spaces and more. The building is situated close to the light rail system as well as other public transportation options, grocery stores and parks.

Unique challenges faced on Greenway Heights include: Lack of available work space, neighboring homes’ proximity to the construction site, soil retention and harsh winter conditions. Bunker blocks and lagging were used to retain the soil for the underground parking structure excavation. This project will continue to provide affordable family housing to the East Phillips neighborhood for years to come.
