Renaissance Box

Multi-Family Housing | Adaptive Re-Use

The Renaissance Box project consisted of gutting an abandoned 7 story, 73,000 square foot warehouse in Lowertown St. Paul and converting it into 70 apartment units. The building, built around 1915, was the former location of the O’Donnell Shoe Company factory. The property is listed on the National List of Historic Places. The design of the units took into account the historic Turner columns and laid out the units to provide as much exposure as possible for the columns. In 2012, Renaissance Box received LEED Gold accreditation. Some unique construction features were the restoration of the existing wood windows, green roof, structural upgrades to the penthouse on the 7th floor, heat recovery ventilation system, community room addition, infill of stair shaft to provide additional square footage and exposed brick that was restored as the exterior wall inside the units.
