Frerichs Construction has completed the renovation on an 18-building scattered site Historical Pendleton Apartments in Cincinnati, Ohio with the Vitus Group. The extensive renovation included upgrades to the finishes in each apartment and an extensive upgrade to the HVAC system. The existing boiler and fin tube HVAC system was removed and replaced with mini splits which allowed the non-air conditioned units to maintain a comfortable 72 degrees year round. Exterior upgrades included cleaning of the buildings, tuckpointing and painting to bring back their historic charm. Pendleton Apartments is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It ranks the oldest apartment building in the United States, being built in the 1850s (Ref. Alexandra Ciuntu October 26, 2021, at RentCafe). The Team was faced with achieving present day accessibility requirements while maintaining the historical look and feel of the buildings. In doing so, multiple accessible units were constructed including access to the newly renovated leasing office, laundromat, and large meeting space.
